The Last Cigarette

If you are a smoker at some point you will have that last cigarette.

Maybe like Barb Tarbox, dying with a cigarette in your hand.  Or maybe your last cigarette, will be the one you were just holding between your fingers? Or maybe you can clearly see that last one, having already said “Good riddance!”

Can you envision that last one?  How does it make you feel?  Please share your insight.

As Barb said, “If you know somebody that smokes … offer them help, without criticism."

The Name of this Blog

I had a bit of trouble picking a name for this blog.  When I tried things like "Stop Smoking" or "Smoke Free" they lead to blog sites that have long since been abandoned.  If you have any comments on the name and can think of a better one; one which would reflect the notion of people helping people quit smoking... please suggest it!
.

Characteristics of a Smoker

First of all, smokers are people.

People who are wealthy or struggling or somewhere in between.  People who are happy most of the time or depressed or overbearing or shy.  People who are highly educated or on their way to be so.  People who are struggling to read or find a job.  People who are healthy or ill; or trying to lose weight or trying to put some on.

Smokers are people. People with families. Families who get along or on each others' nerves. People who are mothers or fathers, or sisters or brothers, or aunts or uncles, or children.  People who love to be social and share time with their friends.  People who are solitary and spend time with their cigarettes.  People who would give anything to change the fact that they are smokers.  People who could care less what others think.  People who enjoy their smoking and people who hid it.

Smokers are people who have problems far beyond their capacity to deal with.  Or people who are bored to death and killing time. People who feel the eyes of society on them. People who are thankful for their smoke breaks otherwise they wouldn't get a "break" at all. People who are kind, considerate, and giving or self-focused and needy. People who are nagged incessantly or boldly encouraged. Or anyone of these on any giving day.

Regardless of all this variety, smokers share one thing in common: Having that first cigarette!

So my question for all the people out there who wish to comment is: Why? What compelled you to have that first SMOKE?
